TorahTrek Hiking Retreat Millard Canyon What are TorahTrek hiking retreats? Click here for TorahTrek programs FAQ Where: Millard Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains above Alta Dena. Who: Adults and mature, spiritually seeking teenagers 14 and older. Sorry, pets are not appropriate. Degree of Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous. 5.6 miles loop trail with 1600 feet of elevation gain, some boulder hopping, brief portion of narrow, exposed trail. NOT for people afraid of heights. NOT for inexperienced hikers. Trail Description: Hike out climbing the pleasantly shaded hillside. Hike back along Millard Canyon's splashing stream. This wooded area includes oaks, alders, maples and bigcone Douglass firs. No toilets at trailhead. We will NOT enter Dawn Mine. Program Description: Meditative hiking, chant, Torah learning and hitbodedut alone time. This hike is suitable for those who have attended a previous TorahTrek hike and for first-timers. Rain cancells, clouds do not. Registration: Participants must register by Friday afternoon, Feb. 23. Hike is limited to fifteen; first come, first serve. To register, click here. Bring: At least 2 quarts of water, daypack, lunch, snacks, good walking shoes or boots, hat, sunscreen, sunscreen lip balm, layers and rain gear (if it's cold or drizzly), and a watch to know when to return from hitbodedut. If you use reading glasses, you'll want them. Optional: Eagle Creek chair or other sitting pad/cushion, siddur, journal, musical instrument, sketching materials, camera. Cost: $18. Left on California Blvd. Right on Pasadena Avenue to freeway 210W. From the Valley: 101E to the 134E to the 210W. Exit at Lincoln Avenue. Go north on Lincoln Avenue to Loma Alta Drive and make a right. Go to Chaney Trail Drive and make a left. Stop and park at the intersection with Sunset Ridge Fire Road.
